Ack! My story has come to a complete halt. The problem is the first book doesn't have any battles or action scenes. It's about Athens and Sparta trying to unite the Hellenes and Artabanus trying to prevent Persia from going to war. Not overly interesting in and of itself, but important to the story. A few characters have some adventures, but other than that I need to make unexciting events exciting. So if you have any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them. (^_^);

Take a break and read something on a similar subject. That may prompt you. Also you can go through what you've written and mark where you need to add more action. You need to, as they say, 'balance the modes'. That is a certain amounts of action, dialogue, narrative, description, flash-backs, internal thoughts etc and that will help keep your story moving along.
A good exercise to get yourself out of writer's block is to first take a little rest, then go somewhere quiet like a park, or a walk by the beach, and be sure to take your notebook as once your mind is quiet thoughts will start creeping in.
Another good way is to do some stream-of-conciousness 10 minute timed writings (on any subject you care to write about.)
